I get asked this question a lot: How do I download my Facebook Live video?

Great question, honestly!

There are a number of reasons you might want to download your Facebook Lives, including:

  • So you can upload it to YouTube or Vimeo
  • So you can upload it to your own website or blog (as opposed to simply embedding it)
  • So you can repurpose it as a lead magnet
  • So you can store it on your computer…just in case!

In the past, Facebook didn’t make it super easy to figure out how to download your Lives.

Fortunately, it’s now really easy – and I’ll walk you through this simple process in just two steps!

How to Download Videos from Facebook Without Any Apps

Here are the steps for a reliable process that will always work on your computer:

  1. Find the video you want to download in your Facebook feed or on the poster’s Facebook page.
  2. Right-click on the video and select Show video URL.Screenshot 2017 09 21 at 4.27.14 PM
  3. A small pop-up window should appear with the video URL. Press Ctrl+C on your keyboard to copy the URL to your clipboard.
  4. In your browser’s Address bar, press Ctrl+V to paste the video URL.
  5. Modify the video URL by changing the “www” at the beginning of the URL to “m”. The URL should look otherwise identical. See this example for what going from step 5 to step 6 should resemble:
  6. Once changed, press Enter to open the mobile version of the page and follow the steps below, depending on your browser. See this example for what going from step 5 to step 6 should resemble:

The final steps may vary slightly depending on which browser you’re using, but they’re all pretty similar:

Edge browser Facebook Video Download Steps

  1. Click the Play icon on the video to start the video.
  2. Right-click on the video and select the “Save video as” option.
  3. Choose a location on your computer where you want to save the video, just like you would with any other file.

Google Chrome browser Steps for Downloading Facebook Videos

  1. Click the Play icon on the video to start playing the video.
  2. Right-click on the video and select the “Save video as…” option.

  1. Choose a location on your computer where you want to save the video, just like you would with any other file.

Firefox browser Facebook Videos Download Instructions

  1. Click the Play icon on the video to start playing the video in a new tab.
  2. Right-click on the video and select the Save Video as… option.

Internet Explorer browser instructions for downloading Videos from Facebook

  1. Click on the Play icon on the video to start playing the video in a new tab.
  2. At the bottom of the Internet Explorer window, a pop-up message will appear asking if you want to Open or Save the video. Click the down arrow next to the Save button and select the “Save as” option.
  3. Choose a location on your computer where you want to save the video, just like you would with any other file.

 As above, find the video you’d like to download and click on the time stamp to open it up and start playing it.

Now copy the URL from your browser’s address bar, then go to SaveFrom.net and paste the URL.

Downloading Facebook videos on Windows PC:

Getting facebook videos downloaded on the computer or laptop s not difficult, however, it will require you to follow some steps.

Step1:

Signing in on our Facebook is the first step or if you are already signed in then your news feed will appear on the screen.

Select the video that you want to download, for doing so you will have to either scroll down the news feed or search the person who shared the video in the Search bar at the top and open their account for the video.

The most important step is to make sure that the video you want to download is public. If there is a globe icon near the uploader then you can download the video, if there is a lock or two-person sign then you will not be able to save that video.

Step 4:

Right click the video you want to save, you will be provided with a drop-down menu. Select “show video URL”, a pop-up box will provide the link of the video, now copy the link.

Step 5:

Once you have copied the link, open SaveFrom website, go to https://en.savefrom.net/ in your browser. It is a website that will allow you to save videos from facebook.

Step 6:

On the website, there will be the option of “just insert the link” click the box and paste the Facebook video link in the box.

Step 7:

A preview of the video will appear along with the “Download” option. Click on the download button, it will save the video on your computer’s default download folder. The website will download the video in the highest possible quality, you can also choose the video quality yourself. Your video will be downloaded to your computer in the folder where your downloads appear.

Downloading Facebook video on iPhone:

Saving videos on iOS will want you to make a little more effort. For doing so you will have to download an App from the Apple store and then the rest of the steps will ease your problems.

Step 1:

The first thing you have to do is download an App from the App Store. For doing so, open the App store, search the app name that is “MyMedia”, this app helps you to manage your media downloads and files like a file manager.

Step 2:

After it has been installed, go to Facebook in your browser and look for the video you want to download.

Step 3:

After making sure the video is public, click the Share option below the video and select “copy link” option. It will copy the link of the video to the iPhone’s clipboard.

Step 4:

Now open the MyMedia App, it will provide you with a browser. Go to the website savefrom.net, paste link of the video in the insert link option, then chose the video quality which will be provided according to the video. Now tap the Download button.

Step 5:

The app will ask the name of the video, once it is downloaded it will appear in the Media tab of the app. You can watch the video directly from the app.

Step 6:

You can also save the video on the camera roll and share it on other channels.

Downloading Facebook video on Android:

Downloading Facebook videos on an android phone will also require you to download an app from the Play store.

Step 1:

Open the Play store on your android phone and search the ES File Explorer app. It is also a type of file manager that allows you to manage and see internal folders. Download this app to your phone.

Interestingly, Downvids also supplies a QR code. Scan it using an appropriate app on your phone to watch the video on your device immediately. There’s also a Downvids Android app, but reviews are mixed. We recommend avoiding it.

  • Pros: Easy to use, especially if you want to watch on your phone.
  • Cons: Misleading download buttons.

2. FBDown

Like Downvids, FBDown is easy to use. You just need to paste a link to download the video. However, the app also offers an under-used second method for downloading content. Let’s take a look at both approaches.

Firstly, the link method. To begin, copy the link of the video you want, paste it into the box on the web app, and hit the Download button. The app will spend a few seconds processing your request. On the next screen, click Download Video in Normal Quality to save it onto your computer. Again, watch out for the fake buttons.

Secondly, why not try the Chrome extension? It’ll detect any video on the web page you’re currently looking at, then offer a way to download it via the icon in the upper right-hand corner of the browser. Best of all, it also works with videos on other common sites, not just Facebook.

  • Pros: The Chrome extension is probably the easiest-to-use tool on this list.

  • Pros: One of the few apps that offers a web app, Chrome extension, and desktop program.
