How to lose water weight

I was going to release this as my next guide however I have decided to share it instead via a post.

I want to start this article by letting you know that I am not a health guru, I’m not a fitness freak, I don’t even go to the gym, and I’m not a medical expert in any way.   I am an ordinary guy who wanted to lose a few pounds and accidentally discovered a way to do this, and I am so excited to share what I discovered as I know it can work for you too.

The simplicity of this method is what makes it so very easy for you to lose your first eight pounds.   Please do not be put off by its simplicity and please, please, please don’t dismiss it before you actually try it.   When you try it, you will see results within 1 week and after 2 weeks I know you will have lost at least eight pounds, depending on your weight to begin with of course.

Okay, let’s start by telling you the story of how I discovered this simple weight loss plan.

Water Pills Side Effects

Most healthcare professionals don’t recommend taking OTC water pills. Why? Because there are a number of side effects and complications that could affect you should you take them without supervision.

What are some of the side effects of taking water pills that you might see? Aside from frequent urination, which is an obvious consequence, diuretics in general can result in:

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Dehydration
  • Irregular blood potassium and sodium levels
  • Muscle cramps
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Muscle cramps

These side effects can result whether or not your diuretics have been prescribed. However, if you’re taking OTC water pills for weight loss, you may put yourself at greater risk because your body is already managing your fluid levels adequately. However, don’t take them for weeks on end. You should definitely give your body a break.

So, it is possible to take water pills safely. However, if losing weight is your main reason, you should also be aware that you can likely control your water weight in other ways.

Also, it may not be as important to control your water weight as it seems. As a general rule, most people have a fluctuating water weight that depends on their diet and lifestyle. For example, after eating a high-sodium meal, you may feel a bit bloated. That’s because your body retains extra water to balance out the salt. But, this is obviously a temporary feeling that passes after your body’s levels have returned to normal.

  • Drink Water: Contrary to what you may think, drinking water can help reduce your weight weight and water retention. Why? Think about it, if your body feels like it’s becoming dehydrated, it holds onto all of the water it can, rather than letting it go. So, drink up! Hate the taste of water? Try lemon water or cucumber water to stay motivated and stay hydrated.
  • Carbohydrates: Remember how carbohydrates turn into glycogen which is notorious for holding onto water? A super carb-heavy diet can cause you to retain more water than a more moderate diet. That doesn’t mean you have to go carb-free. Rather, focus on whole grain carbohydrates and ensuring that your diet includes a great balance of all of the macronutrients.
  • Exercise: Moving your body promotes better circulation so that you don’t experience swelling or bloating in certain areas of the body. Of course, make sure also stay well-hydrated while exercising!

4. Detox ‘Spa’ Cucumber Water


I’m not sure who came up with the idea of putting them in water but that person is probably a millionaire by now.

If you go to a spa and they don’t have cucumber water then you aren’t at a spa.

Cucumber has a ton of rehydrating properties but because you want a bit more flavor than the vegetable provides you get to add some lemon and mint.

5. Sassy Water

Sometimes I feel like half of what makes a great detox water great is the name.

You know I had to include Sassy Water when I read about it. I don’t even care what’s in it, the name alone has me hooked.

But you might care about what’s in it so let’s discuss.

It’s almost the exact same water as the ‘spa’ water above but with a small twist: it has ginger.

You might think that adding some ginger isn’t going to change things much but ginger is one of the best herbs you can take while trying to lose weight. If I could put ginger in every meal I would.

I’ve never met a human being that doesn’t like strawberries.

They are the Tom Hanks of food, everyone loves them!

Although this is called strawberry water there is a number of other fruits that you add to the mix.

Without a cool name, you know this water better bring some good flavor.

It does.

If it seems like you just need to start with water, mint, and cucumber for your detox water then you are correct. That’s a great foundation and you simply build on top of that.

Adding any type of citrus fruit is going to do wonderful things to your body considering the amount of Vitamin C and antioxidants that citrus contains.

I’m not sure there is a better drink in the world.

Unfortunately, great lemonade is always packed with sugar. Remove the sugar and you are left with something amazing and healthy.

This is another one of those spa drinks that make you feel like you are pampering yourself by doing absolutely nothing but drinking this detox water.

The Magic Number of Water Weight Loss

Truth be told, there just isn’t one magic number for how much water weight you can lose. Each person has such a different make-up and depending on beginning weight when going into a diet, there can be up to a 10 pound difference between what’s safe for me and what’s safe for you.

Some things you should look at:

  • Current weight
  • Health
  • Muscle to fat ratio (or BMI)

While it’s easy to say that 10 pounds is the typical “safe” number of pounds to lose in a week, an obese person could easily lose 20.  Losing 20lbs in a week, for the record, is NEVER something I would recommend.  I use this example only to support the evidence that safe weight loss can vary person to person.

Slow and steady is key for maintaining weight loss at a safe rate so most nutritionists and physicians will warn you not to lose over 1-2 pounds a week.  That being said, it’s ok to lose water weight on a quicker basis as long as you don’t do it too often.
