Take a small amount of dishwashing liquid and apply on the dirt areas. Use a soft brush or your own fingers to gently rub the stain. In addition, if you do not have a brush, you can fold the fabric and rub them together. Wait about 15 to 30 minutes for the detergent to immerse in the fabric and rinse thoroughly with water.

Those are pretty much what you have to do. However, if you have not noticed the effect yet, try the next steps just in case. (The reasons are because the oil stains are too stubborn, or because your detergent is not strong enough.)

Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of baking soda onto the stain covered with dishwashing liquid. Like above step, gently stir the mixture and rub the cloth. Wait 15 to 30 minutes to keep the mixture enough time to get rid of the oil.

After waiting, wash your clothes with cold water and do not forget to see if the coconut oil has really disappeared. If it is still stubborn and just stay there, you will want to repeat the two previous steps. Therefore, you should not dry the clothes immediately after the first cleaning.

First, you need to handle the excess coconut oil has not been permeated and stuck to the yarn. The best way on how to get coconut oil out of your clothes is to scrape them off or use an absorbent material to dry out the surface. And the material we are talking about here is baking soda.

Apply enough amount of baking soda to cover the stained area and wait for 15 minutes. If you see lumps of baking soda appear, that means baking soda is doing its job of sucking coconut oil. The next step is to wash the cotton under hot water. Remember to rinse it under strong flow so that the dirt on the fabric can be removed completely.

But that is not enough. You should remember that the object we face here is coconut oil, not any other easily removed stains. So the next thing you have to do is to treat the oil stain with a detergent. Apply about 3 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid mixed with warm water and soak the cotton cloth in the solution. Keep it about 15 to 20 minutes to deal with the removal process. Then wash the cotton under hot water with a gentle rub.

That is all you need to do when dealing with coconut oil stains with normal bright color cotton. However, when it comes to dark color, it needs some adjustment because dark color is more difficult to handle. Basically, you just need to repeat the steps above but use cornstarch instead of baking soda. The simple reason is that baking soda can cause patchy color on your black cotton sheet.

Some Tips on How to Get Coconut Oil Out of Clothes

The most important thing when you see a stained shirt or bed sheet is that it must be handled immediately. Just because it happened in the middle of the night does not mean you can wait until the next day to solve. Just an hour later, when the coconut oil dried and scraped on the fabric, then your work has been a thousand time harder.

The next thing to note is that you should not wash the clothes from the beginning. Water and rubbing have no effect on oil stain. Treat them with detergent first and give it some time to process, then you can wash.

In addition, you should pay attention to the choice of detergent. Each material has the ability to withstand different cleansing strengths. After finishing, you do not want to see your shirt look even patchier than the original.

If you feel your dishwashing liquid is not strong enough, try mixing ammonia with two cups of water to see the effect more clearly. However, it is important to remember that chlorine bleach should never be mixed with ammonia. There is a bit of a problem with chemical reactions here when the smoke is extremely dangerous.

Last but not least, you should not dry the fabric by heat. This only makes the stain firmer on the fabric and makes it a hundred times stronger. Let it dry naturally, preferably in the sun, and nothing can cling to your white shirt anymore!
