How to cook cube steak

Cubed steak and onion gravy is one of our favorites for a meal.  This cubed steak and gravy is a quick and easy recipe. Just add bread, side dish and salad.  You could serve this over rice.  It is great reheated if there is any leftover.  You can double the recipe.  I go to this recipe often as it is a wonderful, cheap weeknight meal and you can throw it together along with some easy side dishes.  I am big on onions and love to add them to many dishes because they add such flavor to a recipe.  I think you will make this one over and over again!

1 1/2 to 2 pounds cubed steak 1/4 cup flour 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 cup oil 1 (14 ounce) can beef broth              1 onion, cut into rings 1 package dry onion soup mix   Mix flour, pepper, salt, and garlic powder in a shallow dish.  Coat cubed steak with flour mixture.  In a skillet heat oil and cook steak about five minutes on each side until brown and done on inside.  Remove steak from pan.  Add beef broth, onion, and dry onion soup mix to pan and cook until onions are done.  Can thicken gravy with a little of the leftover flour if you want it thicker.  Serve gravy as a side or pour over steak. Easy Fried Steak Recipe

Ingredients

1/2 cup vegetable oil

6 pieces of cube steak

1 cup flour

2 teaspoons black pepper

1 teaspoon seasoned salt

salt and pepper, to taste

2 Tablespoons butter

Directions

Heat the oil over medium heat in a large skillet.

Blend together the flour, seasoned salt and 2 teaspoons of pepper in a shallow pan.

Salt and pepper each side of the cube steak, then toss around in the flour mixture, making sure to coat both sides.

Melt the butter in the heated oil, then fry the cube steak for about  2 minutes, flipping it over when it’s fried to a golden brown. Repeat on the other side then remove to a paper towel lined platter and serve. Enjoy!

How to make Chicken Fried Steak (Baked)

  • 1 and 1/2 pounds cube steak (use Certified Angus Beef brand for best results)
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2/3 cup seasoned bread crumbs
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 12 ounces chicken gravy optional
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. Spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray
  3. Combine flour, salt, and bread crumbs in one bowl

  4. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and milk together.

  5. Dip one cube steak into the flour mixture first

  6. Next, dip the cube steak in the egg mixture

  7. Dip it in the flour mixture one more time

  8. Place on the baking sheet

  9. Repeat the steps for the remaining steak cubes

  10. Place tray in the oven and bake for 10 minutes

  11. Turn the steaks over and bake for another 5-10 minutes

  12. When the meat is done and the breading is browned, the chicken fried steak is ready

  13. Warm the gravy in the microwave and serve alongside the steaks.
